The other day, I was at the grocery store and spotted a nice package of kiwis. I love kiwis, so I grabbed them and headed home. On the way, I stopped by a friend’s house.
“Hey, I just picked up some kiwis,” I said. “Want one?”
My friend looked at me and asked, “Are they peeled?”
I was a little bewildered. Who peels kiwis? Most people just cut them in half and scoop them out with a spoon. (new life hack if you are a peeler)
It hit me — my friend had probably been eating kiwis the hard way for years. And because peeling them was such a hassle, he had mostly stopped eating them altogether. He liked kiwis… he just didn’t like the work it took to get to the good part.
So I grabbed one, cut it in half, handed him a spoon, and watched him enjoy it. A few weeks later, he admitted he even had a package of kiwis in the fridge, he was enjoying now having learned a simpler way.
The Business Parallel
How often in business do we do the same thing?
We stop doing something we enjoy — or that’s good for our business — simply because the process feels too complicated.
Maybe it’s bookkeeping. You know it’s important, but the software you’re using feels overwhelming. Too many buttons, too many features, too many ways to get lost. So, instead of tracking your finances and running profit-and-loss reports, you avoid it entirely.
The problem isn’t the task — it’s the method.
Just like my friend with the kiwi, the issue wasn’t that he didn’t like kiwis. He just didn’t know there was a simpler way to enjoy them.
Simplifying to Get Back to What Matters
In business, complicated tools are great for complicated companies — but if something is holding you back, it may be time to look for a simpler option. Maybe it’s switching to an easier bookkeeping program, outsourcing a task, or finding a streamlined workflow that gets you the same results without all the extra friction.
When you remove unnecessary complexity, you make it easier to get things done — and you get back to enjoying the benefits.
So, here’s the question:
What “kiwi” in your business have you stopped enjoying because the process got too hard? And is there a simpler way to do it so you can get back to what you love?

This article really hit home. I realize I’ve absolutely been peeling my kiwis the hard way, both literally and figuratively! Scooping a spoon instead of peeling like a potato, brilliant!
Bookkeeping has indeed become a headache and I absolutely avoid it until the stress of NOT doing it outweighs the inconvenience of manual entries.
Email marketing is non existent because of the time, commitment and regularity it requires.
Even daily email checks and responses can be daunting.
There are definitely areas where I need to peel my kiwis more efficiently. Time to work smarter, not harder.
Thanks, Misty! Yet another great and super pertinent article. Plus I’ll appreciate my kiwi tree a lot more this year!
